Papers concern Talbott's work as editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association (AMA) and director of AMA's scientific publications; his family life; University of Buffalo teaching and departmental matters; and World War II service as director of research at Climatic Research Laboratory in Lawrence, Mass. AMA materials include correspondence, memoranda, reports, and notes about preparing editorial content of the Journal and about manuscripts submitted for publication. Family and personal papers contain mainly copies of Talbott's letters to his children; also letters from his son John Andrew while serving as a psychiatrist with the Medical Corps in Vietnam; and some of John H. Talbott's military documents. Other materials include correspondence and memoranda pertaining to committee and teaching activities at Buffalo; correspondence about wartime work; and reference files, with clippings.

Talbott (Harvard, M.D. 1929) was editor of the Journal of the American Medical Association and directed the Association's Division of Scientific Publications from 1959 to 1969. He was associated with the Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts General Hospital from 1929 to 1946 when he became physician-in-chief of the Buffalo General Hospital and chairman of the Department of Medicine at the University of Buffalo. His research was in the field of rheumatology, gout, and collagen diseases. ...
